Is it better to have a career in travel or to travel for vacationing?

New Auburn All I know is that I'm passionate about travel and would love to explore the world. However, I'm not sure whether a career in travel would turn out to be a positive option. Is it better to travel on the job and work during the travels (such as a travel journalist), or simply have a well-paying job which will enable me to travel on vacation time? If you find a career in travel to be fulfilling, do you have any job suggestions? Regina I think you would be better to get a good job and travel where and when you want. Most jobs in the travel industry do not pay that much and you work long and uneven hours. Some jobs that give great travel benefits don't allow you time to travel. If you get a job as a tour guide and get to go some places you want to see, but you will not really enjoy them because you will be busy with your tours. I went to travel school with the thought of working as an agent as my second career. But the pay was too low for me. So now I just travel where I want. Ramah I recently joined world Ventures where you can travel and get paid and paid for having others travel from your online business. sign up at www. flightcenter. worldventures… Delete Howey-in-the-Hills I had corporate jobs for years, where I worked to pay for vacation. Being in the US, most of those years I had only 2 weeks vacation. Eventually I decided to start my own travel biz instead. Best decision I ever made! I'm my own boss, & get to travel at least 10 times more than I did before. :-) Centerville You are much better off having a well paying career, you will be able to travel more and at a higher standard. However a career in travel is a very good second choice. Herman All depends on how old you are. I loved traveling, went to travel school thinking I would work for airlines, however timing wasn't right so I opted for being a travel agent which used to have great benefits (not so anymore)....then I became a tour guide in the USA, then onto working on a cruise ship, then for an airline, onto hotels and back to travel agent. So my suggestion is...if you are young, have NO TIES...like a house, lover, pet, etc. find jobs that will take you around the world that you will be paid at the same time...be aware tho, money is not that good in the travel industry, unless you get into an airline and work your way up....then pay is good...If you want to make good money or have a family, get a good paying job and pay for trips.....its worth it.....good luck whatever you do.....another suggestion, if you have not seen the USA.....take a few weeks to see the western part of USA..and see all our beautiful national parks.....good luck
