I&m heading to Costa Rica in a few weeks and I have a few questions. First what id the best way to carry money? I&ve heard travelers checks aren&t great. I have a master card Debit card and an American express credit card. Can I use Costa Rican ATMS and exchange the USD for colones in a bank? Also, how safe is water/food in CR? I&ve heard only hot food/bottled or carbonated drinks with no ice is the best rule to go by but some of my travel will be out of major cities in more farmish country areas where I&m not sure those sort of things will be available. Lastly, I&ve heard there are plenty of internet cafe&s in Costa rica and some hostles offer computer use. How common are these sort of things? Could I find them outside of major cities and how much is usually charged for an hour of computer time? Thanks so much

Costa Rica - Money, Food, Internet?
By "good"...I know that all credit card companies are basically after money via fees, annual fees, etc. I know all about that stuff already. I know of American Express, Chase (HSBC), Discover, Citi...What other major card companies are there that are decent and well-known, and among the less-scammy side of the major credit card companies? I know that most banks have credit cards that you can get through them, and I have a couple through my bank...but I&m not exactly pleased with them and use them (no annual fee) every few months to keep my credit and account active. I do not want to use one of those little, not-well-known banks. I know that all are scammers, but some are moreso than others. I&m looking for a Personal use credit card...not a business or travel card.

What other "good" major credit card companies are there?

I am wondering why travel through american express is so expensive. I have been a card member for years and decided I want to take a trip to Brazil. A 1 way ticket was 1140 dollars. It was 2470 for a round trip ticket. I input this same information into other places and came back with 1170 for round trip tickets, same dates, with the same airline. Why would American Express be over twice as much? I thought being a card member was suppose to have benefits..? What am I missing?

Why is American Express Travel so expensive?
My husband of five years has a very unpredictable behavior. He get angered easily and can be really loving and sweet the next moment. He&s a union worker and though he gets laid off every year, he gets to make 60k-100k, while i make 60k. The issue is because i travel a lot for my job, i can&t keep track on what he&s doing with money, he&s struggles with bills and he said he gambled a little, but he&s not really into it. Last time, i travelled for work, he called me and was in total distress, asking for $200 western union. after we filed our taxes together, i saw he made 100k and i made 60k and i had given him thousand of dollars that year because he was struggling with bills. He&s also an alcoholic and he used to go for his aa meetings but now he&s stopped, my younger brother smelt alcohol on him. Lastly, he&s a chain smoker, doesn&t listen to me when i talk about living a healthlifestyle and going for annual checkups. I am 30 and he&s 46.I want to move to the next phase of my life, kids, house, the american dream but i feel worn out from trying to change all these things about him. he&s afraid of being responsible for a kid, he wants me to focus more on my career just in case he gets laid off so that i can take care of him. I worry that if i decide to get pregnant, and can&t work at a certain time, i don&t know if he&ll be dependable. i feel alone and don&t feel like i have the partnership. He jokes about giving me a fat lips(punching me),but when he&s angry he staggers towards me throwing things sometimes or folds his fist as if he&ld beat me up but he never does. i&m afraid that he&ll snapp oneday. he seems gentle, i love him...he has never hit a woman...so he says. i hate that i feel fear when he flipps out on me. I never ever thought that this would happen. I feel since i&m 30,maybe i should have a kid for myself, i could support that....even if things go wrong? i don&t know where to fix things? or how to start. Yesterday, he told me to get out of our bedroom because i expressed my opinion about "not being controlling",working to improve our marriage by doing things together, he feels once you&re married, you don&t have to work to keep the "flame" in the marriage intact. I left because he became really upset and a sudden fear creeped in when he told me to leave in a threaten manner. he apologized a few mins later and i came back. Does this marriage seem worth mending?

Lost my American Express Travelers Cheques Pls Help.?
I have a few credit cards and pay off my balance each month. I&ve never put any big purchases on my cards, but now I am working a job with large international travel expenses that I am required to pay up front. My credit limit on my american express card is $3600. I&ve never asked for a credit limit increase. I thought I could call up and ask for an increase and see what they would give me. Instead, I was told I have to "ask them for a certain amount" and then they&ll get back to me and either accept it or deny my request. So I froze and went too high. I asked for a $20,000 credit limit. My income is about $150k right now, so I don&t think that&s totally unreasonable. However, my credit limits on all my cards are no more than $4k each at the moment, some even less. I need to put a lot of expenses on my personal cards for work so having the high credit limit would be helpful. I still plan to pay these balances off in full each month. I have a sinking feeling they are going to deny me because I requested a very high(?) limit. Once they deny me, it will hurt my credit score, huh? What sort of credit request limit is reasonable for someone making $150k who pays off her balances in full every month? Update: my credit request was denied -- apparently it is not ok to ask for a credit limit 3 times higher than your current limit! Now, is it really awful to ask again for something more reasonable? I wish they could have just told me this one the phone! The customer service rep provided no help whatsoever -- she said "I can&t tell you what to ask for." Yea, thanks lady.

Did I just kill my credit score by asking for a credit line increase?
Okay, so I am going on a Disney World Vacation and I have a few questions. Please answer all of them:1.) Can I pay for my vacation with an American Express Gift Card (for that amount?)2.) When is the best time to go? I am debating between Christmas 2010 or Summer 2011.3.) I am traveling by train, is the train station far from Disney World? Thank you for all of your help! I&m sorry! I have one more question! For the Cinderella Castle, are you allowed to look through the whole castle? (For example, the Cinderella Bedroom?)

Instead of saying you&re Canadians? I always thought you people were proud of being American, so what&s wrong with expressing it when abroad? I don&t understand why you do that.
